About Our Founder

Hi I'm Jessie, the founder of Drohmor Inc. My husband and I were born and raised in Ghana and we now live in Canada, building our lives and raising our two amazing children.

I was motivated to start Drohmor Inc. by the passion to ensure that as our kids grow up with both a Canadian and Ghanaian heritage, they never feel like they are out of place. So I thought, why not invite in the whole of Canada and the entire world to form a connection to Ghana?

I searched the Ghanaian culture and found the pieces that although unique and distinct, are actually relatable to everybody, no matter where you're from. That's where day names and Adinkra symbols come in.

The dream we are fueled by is that everyone will find something that makes them always think fondly about Ghana. Whether it's your Day name, or an Adinkra value that's significant to you.

So that wherever we are as Ghanaians, we have commonality with our community and we're not thinking of ourselves, treating ourselves or being treated as outsiders. Rather, we can find common ground in whatever communities that we find ourselves.

Along the way came the concept of being "Ghanadian" which simply is the collective identity of anyone who has ties with Ghana and Canada. We believe if anyone discovers their Ghanaian Day Name, and/or has an Adinkra value that you hold dear, "Ghanadian" is a mindset that can be carried by us all.

And the bigger vision here is for this to be replicable for other countries and cultures. There is the ability to find common ground across cultures, across countries, across all the lines that could equally divide us. Those very things can also bring us together.

The world being the global village that it is today, so many of us find ourselves leaving our countries and building lives in different places.

We want to foster unity across the entire world, so we all know that no matter what, there is something that ties us all together.

Our Why

As an immigrant in a largely multicultural country, I find myself sharing stories about my birth country a lot.  I decided to create a community of sharing and learning to foster representation, knowledge and acceptance.

Our Mission

We equip with resources to foster a safe space for conversations where a person’s culture is acknowledged and celebrated.

Our Vision

A community where sharing about ‘where you are from’ is just another segue. Ie. not weird.
Like-minded souls seeking to learn and grow.
