What day were you born?
We believe that celebrating cultural diversity is important in building a more inclusive and accepting world. By learning about other people's cultures, we can appreciate the beauty in our differences and grow as individuals and as a community. This book is a conversation starter, encouraging children to ask questions and learn more about other cultures.
Do you know what day you were born? Yes, your birthday! Wonderful if you said August 10th or May 24th. Was it a Tuesday, or a Friday? In the Akan and other Ghanaian tribes, you get a special name for the day of the week you were born. This is often the very first name you are given after birth. There is usually a boy version and a girl version of these names.
Join Arielah as she learns a beautiful part of her African heritage through the lens of her large family, in anticipation of a trip to see them in Ghana.
